I liked the shape and colour of this bunch of young fir needles. I thought it looked festive and alive – an explosion of abstract visual fragrance. It was extremely tiny, but it reminded me of the whole spring day around me – the new life, the fresh air and the fertility.
I photographed the needles from very close up with a limited depth of focus to display their profusion of colour and energy. I like the negative shapes that the blurred needles form with the edges of the frame and the smooth swatches of muted, soothing colour in the background.
