Windshield, Beaded Water (B&W): Penticton, BC, Canada (2011) - Abstract macro black and white photograph showing beads of rainwater on a dirty car window

When it is not driving, a quiet car, like some unused terminal at a foreign airport, can be a vacuum bottle for ideas. This day, light rain was pattering onto the windshield, making and breaking tiny pockets of water and streaming down the glass like unfurling ribbon. In the stillness of the car, it was hypnotic. I received many odd looks from shoppers as I photographed the window against the white winter sky.

This photograph reminds me of the pleasant mental space that a time away from work and pedestrian life can give, the new sphere where everything seems noticeable and remarkable. I'm sure this is where many artists live, where writers draw rich characters, where the soil is black for growing imaginary things into real.
