Water, Marble: Vancouver, BC, Canada (2003) - Abstract photograph of beaded water on the surface of a red marble slab

Surface tension pulled the water on this marble slab apart into fascinating shapes, like the pieces of a puzzle that had been so eroded and worn that they no longer fit. Within a couple of hours, the pieces would shrink, forming tiny droplets and eventually disappearing altogether.

I like the transitive nature of water – how it is always around us but never looks the same for long. I like watching it interact with things that we make, washing them, wearing them, and slowly but surely returning them to their source. Millions of years from now, this marble slab could look quite different, but water will pool on it much the same.
