This icy lake distorted its reflected world into a macabre sunken city of dark corners and muddy shapes. As I waited by the shore for the sun to rise, I enjoyed the silent, eerie calm of the place. It was as though time too had become sunken and stretched under the ice.
When the day finally began to fade from the dark, I ventured onto the frozen lake to make this photograph of the light seeping into the shadows. The vague yin-yang shapes of day and night hint at a quiet tension, a long and strained relationship between two sides of the ice.
