Ice Blue Lake, Reflections

Ice Blue Lake, Reflections: Joffre Lakes, BC, Canada (2002) - Fine art photograph of blue water, reflections, and fall colors

In the middle of a day of hiking, I found myself knee-deep in glacier water, peering through my camera's viewfinder as I made long exposures of this lake's icy blue ripples. I liked the contrast between the colour of the water and the fall leaves on the far shore, but I occupied most of the frame with the lake to hint at its size and majesty.

I like the lack of any foreground in this photograph – not only does it depart from the traditional 'landscape' style of composition, (which I have never excelled at) but it opens the size of the lake to interpretation, leaving the mind free to explore a frameless expanse of delicately hued water.
